How to download and generate eBook

Getting Started With eBook - Just Follow These 4 Steps

*Do not download the file (URLLink.acsm) to your mobile device directly. AFTER you generated the eBook through Adobe Digital Editions installed on PC or MAC, you will then become able to  transfer the eBook to your mobile device. URLLink.acsm is like a ticket to download PDF to your computer.

You will receive unlimited downloads. However, you only need to download URLLink.acsm once as file will be stored in your computer. If you fail to generate, you only have to click  the downloaded  URLLink.acsm to try again. Usually, the file will be stored in folder configured in your PC or MAC.

Step 1: Install Adobe Digital Editions to your PC or Mac and Create Adobe ID

1. First, you will need Adobe Digital Editions and an Adobe ID to download and read an Adobe DRM protected eBook.
Install free Adobe Digital Editions that runs on your desktop and laptop. (choose Windows or Mac): http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/

2. Create an Adobe ID for free. Register for Adobe ID at: https://www.adobe.com/account/sign-in.adobedotcom.html

Step 2: Install a Reader on Your Device such iPad, iPhone, Android phone & tablet etc

1. Install eBook reader App to your device such as Bluefire Reader.  Bluefire Reader is a free application which can be found in the Apple App Store and Google Play. (If you wish to use other readers, a full listing of compatible apps and devices can be seen at here)
JEC has tested Bluefire Reader and Kobo and we thought they are stable apps. You may experience loading time as eBook contains rich images, although this is standard for modern reader.

2. Open your app and Go to "Info" and Authorize the reader by entering your Adobe ID and password. Usually It ask you to enter right after the installation.

You are now ready to download your eBook.

Step 3: Purchase eBook from JEC Store and Download to your PC or MAC

*Before you proceed, make sure you have Adobe Digital Editions installed on your PC or Mac.

1. Purchase your eBook product from JEC Store from here

2. Go to your account and click My Downloadable Products from the menu. Click on the download link located right next to the title. OR you can click on the link in order email.

3. Your computer prompts you to open the "URLLink.acsm" with Adobe Digital Editions. URLLink.acsm is not eBook file, it is like a ticket to download/generate eBook. Click OK

4. Adobe Digital Edition will ask you to authorize your eBook with your Adobe ID and password you created in step 2.

5. Adobe Digital Editions will then download and generate copyright-protected eBook to your computer and it will be ready to view and transfer to your device.

*Also, please refer to below video for how to download ADE and authorize your computer. This instruction will cover Step 1 - 3, however, please skip first part of video about library. Same procedures can be applied to MAC OS as well.

Step 4: Transfer eBooks to Your Mobile Devices

Now that you can view the eBook on Desktop or Laptop on PC or MAC. You can also transfer the eBook to your mobile Devices such as iPad, iPhone, Android tablets & phones etc (Kindle is not supported. Click here for list of supported devices).

1. As described in Step 2, make sure you have Installed an App which supports Adobe ID and authorize. We recommend Bluefire Reader as it is reliable and free. Just search for "Bluefire Reader" in App Store or Google Play. 

2. Locate your eBook PDF.

Usually, Adobe Digital Editions stores the eBooks in these default locations:
On OSX: your-home-directory/Documents/Digital Editions

On Windows: your-home-directory/Documents/My Digital Editions:

3. Transfer the eBook file to your mobile devices. Once you have located the eBook PDF file you want to transfer, you can use iTunes, Dropbox, and other app to Reader. Followings are the ways of transferring.

a. Transferring eBooks from Apps like Dropbox

Many applications support the "Open In..." feature of iOS. In these applications (Mail, Dropbox, etc.), tap and hold on an PDF file name to access the "Open In..." menu. Then choose "Bluefire Reader"  or your favorite app to launch Reader and view the file. When a file is opened, it will automatically be added to your Library.

What to do on your PC or MAC
1. Please get free account from Dropbox:

2. Install it in both PC (MAC) and mobile device with same account.
3. Drag and drop to your Dropbox folder and it should sync with your iPad.
Usually, Adobe Digital Editions stores the eBooks in these default locations:
On OSX: your-home-directory/Documents/Digital Editions
On Windows: your-home-directory/Documents/My Digital Editions

What to do on your Mobile device.
1. In Dropbox, tap the eBook file.
2. Tap "up arrow" icon located at bottom and tap "Open in", OR tap and hold on an PDF file name to access the "Open In..." menu. Then choose "Bluefire Reader" or your favorite app to launch Reader and view the file.
3. Make sure you have authorized the Reader with same Adobe ID.
4. When a file is opened, it will automatically be added to your Library.

b. Transferring eBooks with iTunes

The Apple iTunes application has a File Sharing feature that can be used to transfer files to and from Bluefire Reader. This can be used as a convenient method to back up your books.

Useful Features in Bluefire Reader

Table of Contents

Tap the Contents button from the Reading Toolbar to view the Table of Contents for the current book (if the publisher included one). Tap an entry in the Table of Contents to jump to that section of the book.

Creating a Bookmark

Tap the Add Bookmark button in the upper-right corner of the Reading Title Bar to add a bookmark.  Or first select text to create a bookmark with the selected text as the excerpt. Use the Notes field to add annotations to your bookmark.  If the bookmark contains an excerpt, that text will become highlighted in the content of the book.

Searching within a Book

To search for words or phrases within a book, tap the Search button in the Reading Toolbar. This will bring up the Search Toolbar at the top of the book page. Enter a search term within this bar and tap Enter or Search on the keyboard to begin your search.

Search terms in the book will be highlighted. You can advance through the results by tapping the arrow in the Search Toolbar. To dismiss the Search Toolbar, tap on the Done button. Tap on the page to hide or show the Search Toolbar. Note: you must first dismiss the Search Toolbar to access the Reading Toolbar.

Reading Settings

Tap the Settings button in the Reading Toolbar to access the Reading Settings. There are two tabs in the Settings Panel: General and Formatting.

General Settings Tab

The General Settings, from top to bottom are:

• Select Text Size

• Select Margin Size

• Adjust Brightness

• Select Page Turn Effect

• Show/Hide Page Numbers in the Margin

 • Enable Night Mode

Formatting Tab

You can override the publisher's formatting in the book by sliding the Use Publisher's Formatting switch to Off.  When you do this, additional formatting options become available.  Warning: this may cause unexpected results depending on the nature of the publisher's formatting.

Additional settings include:

 • Select Font Face

• Enable Justified Text Alignment

• Select Text Color

• Select Background Color

• Select Color Them
